Boston can't be happy about the play of star Adrian Gonzalez who went hitless in 8 at bats!. This ended up being a non productive game where Boston sent out 9 pitchers in total. On the bright side, David Ortiz kept up his exceptional hitting as he has done all season as we're one week into the month of May.

From the Kansas City perspective, they were finally able to win at home after an 0-10 start and against the Yankees. They have to feel good about themselves despite their record as players like Dyson are showing flashes of talent.

I would have to give the Royals the edge in the pitching matchup. Felix Doubront is young and hasn't proven anything yet while Jonathan Sanchez was a winner at one time with the Giants and is coming off of a 5 inning, 1 hit performance against Detroit at Comerica Park.

This is a tough matchup because the Red Sox are the better team but the circumstances aren't right. This leads me to the betting total. It could be higher than 9 (from an MLB odds maker's perspective) and I'm not thrilled with that number but look for Sanchez to silence the Sox bats as they'll be a tired group of players and with Kansas City's offense, you don't know what you're going to get from game to game. The under is the play.

TranslateWould you ever believe at this point in the season that the Mets would have a better record than the Phillies? No Chase Utley and no Ryan Howard has made a huge difference. Saying that, Philadelphia is coming off of a convincing 9-3 victory over a good Washington Nationals team on the road and on Sunday Night Baseball. The Phillies shouldn't be tired coming into this game as the traveling distance is short from the nation's capital to Philadelphia.

The major advantage that the Phils have in this game is the starting pitching with Roy Halladay as the starter. He hasn't been perfect at 3-2 with a 3.40 ERA but this isn't the same Phillies team. Halladay is coming off of a beating against the Braves in where he pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up 8 runs on 12. Very rarely will you ever see that occur. Halladay faces a team that he's had major success against in the New York Mets. He's a career 9-2 with a 2.88 ERA.

The Phillies bats were out in full force last night and if they can provide half the offense, Halladay and the Phillies still win at home.

TranslateThe only negative to this game, if you're an Angels backer, is their poor play on the road (3-9). Although the halos haven't proven much on the road, the Twins haven't proven much at home (3-8) and that's much worse if you want to be a winning team.

We see the obvious here, a mismatch in starting pitchers. The Angels ace Jered Weaver has been automatic this season. He's undefeated (4-0, 1.61), is coming off a no-hitter, and has also pitched 15 scoreless innings in his last two starts. Did I fail to mention that Weaver is a career 6-2 against Minnesota? If the Cy Young voting was done today, Weaver would be a clear cut winner.

To make this game more of mismatch, Minnesota starts Francisco Liriano (0-4, 9.97). Liriano is having a disastrous start to the season although he's a lifetime .500 pitcher. He's also been unsuccessful in his career against LA, sporting a 1-3 record with a 7.48 ERA.

LA currently resides in the basement of the American League West but that will change. I'm a big believer in momentum and finally Albert Pujols hit his first homer as an Angel after 111 at-bats. This club is better than their record indicates and even an average "Weaver performance" is too much for Minnesota to handle.
